The school has provided my child with special needs with an excellent support system. the teachers and principal are caring and professional. The PTA can be annoying and the kids can be bratty. My other 2 kids who do not have special needs were also taken care of very well also.

H B THOMPSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
98 ANN DR
[Details]
PUBLIC 5 - 8 HIGH 845 4
(Based on 3 reviews)

I transferred to Syosset and am currently putting my second child through this school. The academics program is pretty good- but not great as many would like to believe. And the extra curricular acivities are available just like other schools. I do believe though that the school is more focused on providing activities that make the school look/rate high in National scores rather than actually focusing on the children. The sports program was very good for my first child, my second child focused more on the arts. The teachers seemed consumed with drama children that take private lessons - lucky for my daughter, rather than actually teaching drama to the eager children that could benefit from theatrical instruction- which according to my daughter was litle to none.

ROBBINS LANE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
157 ROBBINS LN
[Details]
PUBLIC K - 5 HIGH 800 4
(Based on 16 reviews)

I am a parent, my daughter attended Robbins Lane and my son is currently attending kindergarten. Cant say enough great things about this school, the teachers are very attentive, the PTA is very active and kids are exposed to music, foreign language, computers, math and science right from kindergarten. My daughter was fortunate to have attended this school and was accepted in the honors program for gifted students known as "project beyond". Project Beyond is like a mini MBA for elementary school kids, that prepares you for higher education. She contines to excel in middle school because of the opportunities given to her at Robbins lane. Its a great school that prepares you for middle school and the academics are par none.

SOUTH GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
60 COLONY LN
[Details]
PUBLIC K - 5 HIGH 400 5
(Based on 3 reviews)

This school is very nice with many nice programs for children. It provides an excellent choice of musical instruments such as violin, saxophone and other instruments. It also provides a nice vocal program called chorus. There are others things such as an enrichment program and other programs to help improve children's reading, speech, and writing. The teachers are very nice and keep a nice control over the children. This school has excellent safety and discipline. The parents are very involved in the school and the school holds many extra curricular programs, such as family bowling night. The principal has good leadership and decision making, such as once the principal decided that a project a student was making and agreed to let the whole school do it. This was an excellent project because the students got to donate things to the American soldiers. Overall this school is a excellent school.

SOUTH WOODS MIDDLE SCHOOL
99 PELL LN
[Details]
PUBLIC 5 - 8 HIGH 800 5
(Based on 5 reviews)

South Woods has been a positive experience for both of my children. The small size, parent involvement and caring staff makes this a nice learning environment. Lots of opportunities to get extra help if needed...teachers are eager to help and are easy to contact. While I have not had much involvement with the principal, she appears effective and welcoming. Overall, Syosset schools are competitive in nature.

SYOSSET HIGH SCHOOL
70 SOUTHWOODS RD
[Details]
PUBLIC 9 - 12 HIGH 2090 4
(Based on 26 reviews)

Syosset is an amazing school. The standards are put extremely high for students. For example, every student in the high school takes certain Math courses a year earlier than other schools. My son is in 10th grade, and is taking Math 11 B2, a course that most Juniors take in other districts like Plainview. This could be good and bad because a) My son could take Pre-Calculus in 11th grade, and an AP course in 12th, and b) The course is very fast and difficult. Syosset also offers the top amount of AP (Advanced Placement) courses out of any schools in the county. Syosset has many great sports, music, theater, and many more great programs. Syosset is a great place for any child to go.

VILLAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
90 CONVENT RD
[Details]
PUBLIC K - 5 HIGH 327 3
(Based on 10 reviews)

Simply a fantastic school. You have to see it for yourself. People are way too picky when they give their "3 stars." These folks have no clue about "3 star schools." When you see the squalor that exists in NYC or other Long Island hoods, you will appreciate the contrast. Then again, perhaps we are seeing how demanding these picky parents are. The staff is tops. None better. Do not fool yourself. When you see Village, you will see peace, contentment, quality, and top quality edumacation.
