I graduated from East Broadway in 1960. WOW! I walked to and from school, over a mile, every day, up Seamen Neck Rd, before it was paved; when farms and large oaks lined the way, and when all of us post-war kids had, like our parents, the willingness to learn. Yup, it must have been our horrible 1950's conservative upbring that demanded so much from us? I Presently work in education in NYstate-forget-about-it! What a great school E. Broadway was, and still sems to be! It's individual willingness ,not government resources, which enables one to learn.

My son has attended the Seaford Harbor school since kindergarten and is now entering 3rd grade this September. I thought this site was to rate the Seaford Harbor school, not Seaford in general. Fact is every town has its share of people who engage in "cliques" and who centralize their lives around their kids sports programs. Seaford is no different. Many of the school's PTA members find common bonds with one another. Finding people to be friendly with is as easy when you share the common willingness to be as much of a help/volunteer for the school as possible. That notwithstanding, the Seaford Harbor School is an awesome place for kids to learn, make friends and become helpful and productive community members. The teachers (especially multi-age teachers) are incredibly personable and keep in contact with the parents on a regular basis by phone, email, etc. I can't think of any better place I'd like to see my son grow up.

Seaford is a very strong and loyal community of people. Many parents in the community have grown up in the neighborhood. This shows a strong commitment to the neighborhood and the school district. This is a small town made up of middle income families with moderately priced homes compared to towns like Merrick and Bellemore. Since there is less households to collect school taxes from, much of the school budget is spent on maintaining status quo rather than expanding programs. However the school does very well educating the children. The success on state and national tests exemplify the success. The community needs more state aid so there are more extracurricular programs available and better equipment. The teachers and counselors are always ready to help. All a parent needs to do is get involved with their child's education and ask for it. They will deliver.

We are new to Seaford and wasn't sure what to expect. We are so happy moving here and feel lucky to be in such a friendly community. My daughter was able to adapt really well in school. She seems to be flourishing socially and academically. I am pleased with the math and reading curriculums as they utilize new methods of teaching as compared to the previous district my daughter was in. I just wished there was public preschool as well for my other 2 younger kids.

I have a child in elementary school and another a senior in High School. The teachers care about whether the children are learning. The school offers extra help for the struggling student and AP classes for the gifted student. At Parent-Teacher conferences I feel that the teacher really takes the time to know the student. AP teachers offer extra help after school. Parents, Principle and AP as well as the PTA are involved and visable.
